RCH Environmental Team Responds to COVID-19 Challenge
Over the past two months, the day to day operations at Reformed Church Home have evolved to not only conform to CDC and CMS guidelines, but to put extra measures in place to ensure infection control and sanitizing of all surfaces. Although a daunting task, the housekeeping and maintenance departments have risen to the challenge with additions to staff, initiation of terminal cleaning throughout the building, and use of a disinfecting agent found in clinical studies to provide persistent protection against organisms such as viruses or bacteria.
According to LaToya McClendon, Environmental Services Operations Manager at Reformed Church Home, GR-AD Pro is a clean surface technology product used in clinical settings. According to McClendon, “The product is applied as a mist following terminal cleaning [top to bottom sanitation] of all surfaces in resident rooms, the hallways, elevators, common areas, and offices.” In clinical studies documented in 2017 by Crothall Healthcare and conducted in various hospital systems, the mist created a protective barrier that lasted 4-5 weeks as documented via ATP monitoring. The product has no harsh chemicals, is quick drying, odorless, works in a single application, and safe for use in medical settings.
Executive staff at EMS, the company that manages the maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry departments at Reformed Church Home, acquired the product to help combat the spread of COVID-19 on high touch surfaces. At press time, the Home had a total of 13 residents diagnosed as COVID-19 positive, with four residents who recovered thus far ranging in age from 70 to 99 years old.
